Testimonials

I worked with Marcy James enlarging snapshot-sized, Vietnam War era photographs, for an exhibit featuring photos and artifacts gathered by a local Marine during his 13-month tour of duty in 66-67, and donated to the museum. The snapshots were too small, in my view, only about 4 x 4 inches, to do justice to the content, so I reached out to Marcy to format and print the enlargements. Marcy provided excellent, responsive customer service. She has a variety of excellent quality papers to choose from. She printed a handful of the photos early on, in the enlarged format, so I could get a sense of the look and feel, which was excellent. Marcy produced proofs of the 45 photos, in slightly different color and edited (by her) ranges, for my review and selection, before proceeding to the printing. In addition, I had aimed for strictly standard formats, 8 x 10, 11 x 14, and 16 x 20, but to Marcy’s expert eye, a handful would have lost something if cropped, and she was correct. The final product was printed, each photo sleeved individually and packaged in cardboard envelopes for safe travel across town. And all in a timely manner, in fact ahead of my timetable.

Marcy’s professionalism, courtesy, knowledge of the medium, and creation of an excellent product definitely made my job—pulling together and installing an exhibit—much easier! It’s also worth mentioning that Marcy brought a level of empathy and care to the subject matter, photographs taken by a combat veteran with PTSD, that was most welcome. And finally, if you happen to be a Missoulian, you can meet her friendly studio dog, when stopping by, during the process. Needless to say, the exhibit has been a hit so far with the Missoula community and I am very grateful and happy I could work with Marcy James. I could not recommend Paper & Ink Studio more.

Paper & Ink has been an integral partner on projects large and small—including nearly 400 prints of varying sizes for a new hotel in Missoula, Montana. The quality of the work is exceptional—I’m inclined to say perfect—every time. Owner Marcy James offers her extensive knowledge of materials and printing techniques, an attention to detail like I’ve never seen, and a real thoughtfulness with respect to project objectives. She is also refreshingly mindful of her clients’ deadlines and budgets. Paper & Ink is not just a print shop. It’s a solution space.

I have been in the Art business for over 40 years. During that time we educated our clients in the value of hand printed materials, such as etchings, hand pulled lithographs, or woodblock prints. The collectibility and value of these forms of art is that they have the artist and their hands on the work. Work created by the process of printing. When I bring work to Marcy, it is having an artist help me through the process with her printing knowledge to create a piece of art. I love the quality of our joint endeavors.

Marcy James, the force behind Paper & Ink, is a driven artist and creative professional. Her work is exquisite and she goes extra lengths to make sure every piece is printed, packaged and shipped perfectly. My customers keep coming back because of Marcy. I have run print sale campaigns where she had to produce several hundreds of prints in a matter of days and have them shipped outside of the US. She would stay up countless nights without sleep to make sure every print made it to the customer on time. To me, Paper and Ink is the best photography printing studio in the United States. Her quick turnaround times, personal service and professional level is unparalleled.
