Marcy James, the force behind Paper & Ink, is a driven artist and creative professional. Her work is exquisite and she goes extra lengths to make sure every piece is printed, packaged and shipped perfectly. My customers keep coming back because of Marcy. I have run print sale campaigns where she had to produce several hundreds of prints in a matter of days and have them shipped outside of the US. She would stay up countless nights without sleep to make sure every print made it to the customer on time. To me, Paper and Ink is the best photography printing studio in the United States. Her quick turnaround times, personal service and professional level is unparalleled.
For two years now I have worked closely with Paper & Ink Studio on a personal project that is deeply meaningful to me. Marcy’s craftsmanship as a visual artist and printmaker, the quality of ink and paper, packaging and handling is second to none. Each print received exceeded my expectations and included a card of gratitude from Marcy. Collaborating with Paper and Ink Studio not only has strengthened my artistic vision, it's deepened my creative process. What a gift it's been working with Paper & Ink Studio.

As a wedding photographer who really tries to instill in my clients the importance of their photos 50 or 100 years from now, prints are very important to me. I encourage my clients to build at least one album and “make and put prints everywhere!” To that end, I include one enlargement with every package and I have chosen Marcy to make those prints. She streamlines the process to the point that it’s simple and easy for me. I click a couple buttons, enter in my client’s address, then they receive a beautiful print in the mail a couple weeks later. Marcy not only relieves me of the huge pain which is printing for yourself, but she takes great care with my work. I’ve watched her in action and she makes multiple test prints until things are just right. Sometimes after making the enlargement she notices an imperfection and redoes that one, too. When looking for a printer I was wary of the national print houses because I didn’t know how I could maintain quality control. With Marcy, she is the only person doing my printing and she knows what I want, so I 100% trust the end result when I place my order.
Since its inception, Paper & Ink Studio has been my number one source for custom prints (even though I live out of state!). I scan my original ink drawings and email them to Marcy, who in turn makes sure my images look their best before printing. She then helps me decide the most appropriate paper for my work. Paper & Ink has an excellent variety of fine quality papers, which afford my prints the same feel as my original work. My customers love the prints for how precisely the ink picks up the fine detail of my originals and for the beautiful texture of the paper they are printed on. Marcy is an absolute pleasure to work and collaborate with, and I will continue to use Paper & Ink Studio exclusively for all my prints.

A photographer’s dream is to work with a printer who possesses a strong attention to detail that matches or exceeds their own. As an accomplished photographer herself, Marcy has that quality baked-in. Her love for the people and their art, and the papers and the processes is obvious. Marcy goes the extra mile to get it right. I truly enjoy working with her.
Marcy is a dream to collaborate with. When I bring in work that I’ve made to make prints from, I am wholly dependent on Marcy’s expertise in order to arrive at a beautiful outcome. To use the word “meticulous” would be an understatement. She is as careful with my print projects as she would be with her own print projects. Marcy herself is a brilliant artist/photographer and so deeply understands and most importantly, has endless patience, when I become fixated on details that perhaps the general public would never notice. When asked, she shares her thinking and her own aesthetic opinion, which I respect as much as I do her technical expertise. On top of all this, I have never met anyone more generous with her thinking and time when it comes to simply talking about the business aspects of being an artist. When I think of Marcy, I think of her with permanent pom-poms in her hands.
Marcy James of Paper & Ink Studio, a true artist in every sense of the word, is the only person I'd choose to do my fine-art printing. Her printing skills in combination with the wonderful selection of art papers offered by Paper & Ink absolutely made my images sing! I contacted Marcy with a rush order of 13 large prints for an exhibition, and without a pause, she accepted the order, kept me updated on the progress, wrapped them securely, and had them shipped to my door well within my time limit. Her advice about which papers would work best with my images was spot on. The prints looked fantastic and I couldn't be happier. The online ordering system couldn't be easier to use. Marcy, you're my hero!
Marcy at Paper & Ink Studio continues to be my first choice in print studios when I want the highest quality prints. She continually carries the best selection of archival-quality mediums and will work with me to match the best paper to the image, knowing the paper choice is just as effective as the image when it comes time to make the print. The customer service that Marcy provides continually goes above and beyond-from the initial contact to the print proofs to the sale and delivery of the prints. Everything is beyond my expectation and I am constantly in awe when I see what she can do with her studio. She is a perfectionist and her love of both photography and printing makes for one impressive print studio.
I am an amateur photographer; for both personal use and for public shows, I have had the pleasure of working with Marcy James for a couple of years. I cannot recommend her highly enough. First and foremost, Marcy is an extraordinarily generous and insightful artist and teacher. She is always eager to support independent artists as they try to find and realize their own vision. She invites open conversation, shares her own perspective and brings out the best in the artists with whom she works. At the same time, Marcy is meticulous in all that she does. She takes the time to size prints carefully, she has a fabulous eye in adding careful and appropriate on the spot edits (when invited), she prints with astonishing clarity and depth and knows intimately the range of papers that can be used to best express the tone, mood, graphic intent and emotional resonance of each print. Truly, any new or already established artist who gets to work with Marcy is in for a very rare treat - personally and professionally. She is a gift.
Marcy James is the most efficient and effective printer I know, someone who always goes above and beyond. When preparing for a show in Berlin, Marcy worked with my tight deadline to schedule a time to print right before I needed them, first making test strips to make sure I had the exposures I wanted. She then packed my 14 large prints to ensure they arrived intact. The curator of the show said he had never seen such a flawless packing method. From start to finish, Marcy took the stress out of printing and helped to make my show a success. She’s also just a great person to work with, fun and energetic, and has great insight on photography.
